What I love most about The Economist is their spot-on analysis of the issues. It's a British publication, but they do an excellent job covering issues in the US and around the world. In fact it's likely their outsider viewpoint that helps keep things in perspective. Yes, the subjects lean towards economic issues (hence the title), but economics drive much of the world, and they are hopelessly intertwined with politics.

There are two more reasons to love The Economist. First, they are a weekly publication. That gives them a bit more time to dig into a story and analyze it more than the daily papers do. Second, they truly have worldwide coverage, so you get a much broader perspective of things than by just reading a local or even national news source.

The International Herald Tribune, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal... these are all great news sources. But if you want the best, read The Economist.
